Christmas at St Barnabas

Sunday November 26th

As many of you will probably know already, the annual Light Up the Lane event has been cancelled, which we were only informed about very recently.

However, plans are being made so that a different event will be put on at St Barnabas church in the early evening of the 26th November for all the performers who were intending to appear at Light up the Lane.

This will be an informal occasion, where the audience can come in and watch different groups of performers when they wish, so don’t have to stay for the whole event. The choir will be singing several Christmas themed songs. Choir members can wear their own clothes, which can be as Christmassy as they like.

There will be mince pies and mulled wine at the back of the church, plus a barbecue in the church garden.

North Ealing choir is scheduled to sing at 18.17.  Please email the school as soon as possible to inform us whether you would like your child to participate in either or both of these events.

LUTL at St Barnabas

Parents Letter

Bethlehem

Bethlehem, Bethlehem,
Look a star shines over Bethlehem.
East and West,
All are blessed.
Love has found us
As we pray before you,
See the love around us, love of Bethlehem.

There a stable
Was the altar table.
For the feast, a manger.
For the priest, a stranger.
Braying cattle for the choir.
Singing praises to the new Messiah.

Bethlehem, Bethlehem,
Look, a star shines over Bethlehem.
Fierce and bright,
Burns the light.
By that banner
We shall march till morning,
As we sing Hosanna into Bethlehem.

In a stable

VERSE 1:
In a stable long ago
in a place so far from home
there a baby lay whose love would change the world.
and the life that started then on that night in Bethlehem
Would become the greatest story ever told.

(CHORUS)

And the angels sang at his birth
and his praises rang through the earth
and the skies were filled with songs of worship.
Singing praise and glory to god
on the earth be peace from above
for the time has come for us to know him.

(VERSE 2)
Many angels and a star led the people from afar
to the place where Christ the saviour had been born.
It was such an awesome sight to behold him there that night
and to know his love would last for evermore.

(CHORUS)

(VERSE 3)
As we turn our minds again
to the shepherds and wise men and the stable where our story did begin.
Though the manger now has gone,
there’s a saviour who lives on
with an invitation now to worship him.

(CHORUS)

It was on a starry night

It was on a starry night
When the hills were bright,
Earth lay sleeping, sleeping calm and still.
Then in a cattle shed
In a manger bed,
A boy was born, king of all the world.

And all the angels sang for him,
The bells of heaven rang for him,
For a boy was born, king of all the world.
And all the angels sang for him,
The bells of heaven rang for him,
For a boy was born, king of all the world.

Soon the shepherds came that way
Where the baby lay
And were kneeling, kneeling by his side,
And their hearts believed again
For the peace of men,
For a boy was born, king of all the world.

And all the angels sang for him,
The bells of heaven rang for him,
For a boy was born, king of all the world.
And all the angels sang for him,
The bells of heaven rang for him,
For a boy was born, king of all the world.

Kings came riding

Kings came riding from the East
Searching for the Prince of peace.
Met King Herod, wicked man.
Schemed and plotted evil plan.

Herod told them, “Find the babe.
Come and tell me where he’s laid.
I will go there, kneel me down,
Offer him my golden crown.”

But all he wanted was his blood,
Have this infant gone for good.
Hastily riding through the sand
Kings left Herod’s desert land.

Midnight

Midnight – there’s the strangest feeling in the air tonight,
There’s something going on but I can’t make it out,
I wonder what it’s all about?
Starlight – breaking through the darkness in the dead of night,
Illuminates the path that takes you out of sight,
And all the way to Bethlehem.

CHORUS Tonight’s events were planned in heaven,
The greatest story ever penned.
Heaven and earth have come together,
And life has come to Bethlehem.

Angels – taking care of things that only they can do,
Are waiting in the wings to bring the joyful news,
It’s going to turn the world around.
Strangers – having made arrangements for a night or two,
Have found accommodation in the crowded rooms.
The house is packed in Bethlehem.

CHORUS Tonight’s events were planned in heaven,
The greatest story ever penned.
Heaven and earth have come together,
And life has come to Bethlehem.

Shepherds – minding their own business looking after things,
Are startled by an unexpected happening,
As angel choirs appear to them.
Wise men – taking charts and telescopes and compasses,
Investigate the star that takes them traveling,
Until they come to Bethlehem

CHORUS Tonight’s events were planned in heaven,
The greatest story ever penned.
Heaven and earth have come together,
And life has come to Bethlehem.
